English Diary: I Arrived in Japan. 20220508 #2-86
Hello, welcome back to my channel. This is the Nomadonomado English diary of the 8th of May 2022.
I finally came back to Japan. So I am speaking from Tokyo today and am going to do so for a few weeks from now.
I arrived in Tokyo yesterday. The flight departed Heathrow Airport at 8:40 on the 6th, and I had to change flights at Zurich airport, in Switzerland.
The flights were a little rough, but not too bad. The administration at the airports was not pleasant though. At the Zurich airport, there already was a long queue for boarding when I arrived at the gate for the flight to Tokyo. It was because they were checking passengers’ documents related to covid.
Also, I had to queue up again at Narita airport to have a covid test. There didn’t seem to be many flights. I suppose that there was only our flight that arrived at that time.
The flight to Tokyo was about 85 per cent full and all of the passengers had to have arrival tests.
They create the space for queuing and waiting, testing by using the corridors towards the passport control. I was asked to show the apps for a covid certificate which I had downloaded in advance and to wait in line for having a test again.
I have complained about this before, but I have to say again that it was painful to see so many people involved in it, knowing that Japanese citizens’ taxes were being used.
I feel very sorry that I have to say, but it looked to be a complete waste of money to me after experiences with almost no rules in England, Switzerland and even Canada.
Anyway, I had another test after queuing up and waited for a while to get a result. Luckily, I tested negative again, so I could move on the immigration.
I wanted to take a limousine bus from Narita Airport to the centre of the city but they were out of service, so I took a train instead.
That’s all about yesterday, which was the first day visiting Japan after such a long pause. And today which is Sunday, I will probably go to some shops to see what they have.
By the way, I rented a portable Wi-Fi router yesterday. It should be delivered today. Because I don’t have data for the Internet on my phone, well I don’t have a phone number either. Carrying a portable Wi-Fi router will allow me to connect to the internet wherever I go.
Alright, I think that’s all for now. I hope you enjoyed this episode. And thank you for listening to, leaving comments and following me.
