English Diary: We Went to Christchurch. 20220430 #2-79
Hello everyone, thank you for coming back to my channel. This is the Nomadonomado English diary of the 30th of April 2022.
Today is the last day of April. I can’t believe it. The time flies. This weekend is a long weekend in England. Monday is a holiday. And Tuesday is the end of Ramadan according to the calendar which is not a holiday in England though.
I mentioned Ramadan because one of my sisters-in-law lives in Oman where lots of Muslim people live. She is not Muslim but I have the impression that Ramadan is very important in Oman. I am sure that she will be happy with the end of Ramadan.
Yesterday, I worked in the garden with my mother in law in the morning. I made hanging baskets with the flower plants which she bought in the gardening centre the other day and my husband transplanted one of the delphinium plants into the flower garden.
In the afternoon, we took the train to go to Christchurch where it only took eight minutes to get to. There is a famous church and we walked around by the river after visiting the church.
It’s a little, kind of cute town. My husband said that the population of the town is only 48,000. The old buildings are preserved well. It was nice to wander around.
After we had a short tour in Christchurch, we popped into a Waitrose. Waitrose is a famous supermarket with good quality. We nipped into the shop and bought a bottle of sake imported from Japan. I am going to Japan soon, well, only if I test negative for a pre-enter covid test though. So I assume that I can enjoy more sake in Japan but my husband wanted to try it. That’s why we bought the bottle.
When we came back home, my mother in law was still working in her garden. We did a little more gardening and tasted the sake which was quite nice.
It’s not easy to buy sake in England. In Canada, we can get the ones made in the USA, but it seems to be more difficult to get sake in England, maybe, especially after the pandemic happened.
We enjoyed the sake. It was a bit expensive compared with the quality but it’s understandable because it was imported from Japan.
Today, we are going to Winchester by train. It takes 40 minutes on a rapid train to get there and we plan to stay there for one night. We have booked train tickets because it is normally cheaper to buy them in advance in England but we don’t know where we are going to stay. As I said this weekend is a long weekend so the hotel price is ridiculously high. We are still hoping the price becomes reasonable at the last minute although we are supposed to leave in about two hours.
Alright, that’s all for today. Thank you for listening as usual. I hope you enjoyed this episode. I am happy to receive your comments, feedback and questions. And don’t forget to visit my website, Nomadonomado.com where you can find the English script of today’s episode.
Thank you again. And I will be back to you soon. Until then, goodbye.
